Euro Trip 2015: Hola Barcelona 1.1
There is so much to see and do in Barcelona but one of the biggest draw cards to Barcelona for us were all the amazing buildings designed by Antoni Gaudí. From Güell Park to his magnum opus, the Sagrada Família, his style is so bizarrely beautiful yet so uniquely recognisable.
La Pedrera, commissioned by businessman Pere Milà, in 1906 was one of Gaudí's last civil works and at the time quite controversial due to it's undulating, non-conformist facade. Structurally, it was an innovation of it's time, being one of the first modern buildings to include an under ground car park. Gaudí also transformed the mundane features of the structure, such as the ventilation chimneys on the roof into beautiful works of art to compliment the atheistic of the building.
La Sagrada Família was and still is one of Gaudí's most ambitious projects. Commencing in 1883, it is still under construction to this day based on Gaudí's original blue prints. Current forecasts estimate that the basilica will finally see completion in 2026, 100 years after Gaudí's death.
With it's mind blowing intricacy and design this was the perfect place to bid beautiful Barcelona farewell and start our journey back to Sydney.
