Euro Trip 2015: Dismaland, The (Un)Happiest Place On Earth
Earlier this year Banksy, the controversial and anonymous street artist, announced he would be curating an exhibition on the foreshore of Weston-super-Mare located about 45 mins outside of Bristol. The exhibition was called Dismaland.
Entering Dismaland gave you a sense of unease, everything was taking the piss, the staff showed such disinterest in being there, you were an annoyance in their day. The exhibits dealt with everything that is wrong with our world, politics, war, societies ability to not give a shit about anything other then ourselves. A world falling apart.
After a few hours spent taking in the sights I began to notice the complete irony of Dismaland. We were all here in a theme park "enjoying" all the things that torment so many people, all the things that are slowly destroying the world and society. Very interesting indeed.
It was a strange day. After being ignored and mocked by the staff of Dismaland ("Hurry the fuck up! And don't come back!" said the guy opening the exit door for me) I left feeling a bit disgruntled, and kind of annoyed, much like the staff.
