MONA: Hobart, Tasmania

A trip to Hobart really isn't complete without a visit to the Museum of Old and New Art, or MONA as it is more commonly known. Opened in January 2011, the museum is the exisiting private collection of Tasmanian millionaire David Walsh and also hosts collections from all over the world.

The best thing about MONA is that it doesn't take itself, or art, too seriously. There is a wicked sense of humour through out the MONA experience, from the transport to the museum (always upgrade to the Posh Pit), to the items in the gift shop. What isn't too love about a museum where the locally crafted beer and wine is just as important as the art.

Speaking of beer and wine, MONA is more then just a museum. Brewing it's own beer (MOO brew) and wine, housing one of Hobart's best restaurants, The Source, and hosting music festivals and concerts, it truely is a destination for all things decadent and fun.

So whenever you find yourself next in Hobart, book a ticket in the Posh Pit, get yourself a drink (or a few, art is more fun when you're tipsy) and head into the museum to explore.
