Chinatown, New York City

Every major city has a Chinatown, full of incredible restaurants and markets, colorful stores and merchants, and of course the vibrant people who bring their culture and traditions to these communities of each city. All this makes Chinatown one of the busiest and most exciting neighborhoods NYC has to offer.

While living here in NYC I have visited Chinatown many times, exploring all it has to offer - and with a long history dating back to the 1850s, it has a lot to offer! However, over the past year, Covid-19 has changed the face of the city and Chinatown. Cases of racially fueled violence towards the Asian community skyrocketed since Covid-19 and as determined calls rose to combat this disgusting trend, Chinatown was the epicenter of support and action for the Asian community. Chinatown is busier than ever with the NYC community showing support - from rallies of solidarity to thriving streets full of diners supporting local business. Much like it has for generations before, it is beautiful to see this unique part of the city and the Chinese community blossoming back to life after the initial shock of Covid to survive for many, many decades to come.
